# Google Sheet connection method

For the **Google Sheets** connection method, follow the steps outlined below.

1. Choose the connection type as **Google Sheets**.

||| To connect multiple Google Sheets, each sheet must have identical column headers in the same order. Stock Sync does not support multiple sheets with different column names.

2. Fill out the **Shared Link** with the URL of your feed file.

|| Google Sheets are private by default. Pasting the URL alone is not sufficient. Add [stock-sync@appspot.gserviceaccount.com](mailto:stock-sync@appspot.gserviceaccount.com) to the sheet's sharing settings. For an import/update feed, grant **Viewer** permission. For an Export feed that writes data back to Google Sheets, grant **Editor** permission. Do not change the file to “Anyone with the link.”

4. To share your Google Sheet correctly:
* 1. Open the Google Sheet.
* 2. Click **Share** in the top-right corner.
* 3. Add stock-sync@appspot.gserviceaccount.com.
* 4. Assign **Viewer** permission for an import/update feed. **Editor** permission is required for an Export feed that writes data back to Google Sheets.
* 5. Uncheck **Notify people** and click **Share**.

| Editor access is **not required** for reading/importing data. It is only needed when using the Export method to write data back to Google Sheets.

If Stock Sync cannot connect after sharing the file, verify that the selected sheet name exactly matches the Google Sheets tab name. If selecting standard **Google Sheets** instead of **Google Sheets (Published)** prevents saving, use the standard Google Sheets connection and verify the service-account sharing and sheet-tab selection.

5. **Select the sheet(s) corresponding to your data**. Ensure all **selected sheets share the same column names** and order as Sheet1 for accurate data processing.
  
| If your sheet name consists of a wildcard or any specific date, you can only input the sheet name.

6. In the **File Setting** section, there is an option to skip specific feed rows. You can indicate which feed rows to skip.

7. The first row is the header, enable it when the feed's first row has a header.

### Troubleshooting

* If you see errors such as "Can't load sheets from this file" or the feed not loading values, double‑check that the sheet name you selected matches exactly with the tab name in Google Sheets.
* Ensure the file is explicitly shared with stock-sync@appspot.gserviceaccount.com. Some cases require Editor permission instead of Viewer. Sharing the file only as "Anyone with the link (Read)" may still cause loading issues.
* If the file was uploaded or converted, try using "Save as Google Sheets" to ensure it is in native Google Sheets format.
* If the feed worked before but suddenly stopped, re‑verify the share settings, the selected sheet name, and that the sheet still contains data.
* If selecting standard **Google Sheets** instead of **Google Sheets (Published)** prevents saving, use the standard Google Sheets connection and verify the service-account sharing and sheet-tab selection.
* If prices are compared or imported incorrectly, format numeric values without thousands separators (for example, use `1000.00` instead of `1,000.00`).
