# How do I set up automatic stock updates for product feeds?

To enable automatic stock updates, make sure your feed uses a connection method that supports scheduling (such as Google Drive, FTP, SFTP, Dropbox, or URL). Upload File connections cannot run automatically.

Steps to set up automatic updates:

• Create an Update feed, or use “Copy as update feed” from an existing Add feed.
• Choose a supported connection method (e.g., Google Drive, FTP) instead of Upload File.
• Map the Quantity field correctly in Step 2.
• On the feed detail page, open Automation, enable Schedule, and choose how often the feed should run. Available schedules include daily or hourly intervals; the highest frequency is once per hour and availability depends on your plan. To run the feed every 12 hours, choose Hourly and set the interval to 12.

The schedule uses a start and end time rather than an exact run time. Each next run is calculated from when the previous process finishes. Once the schedule is active, Stock Sync will automatically fetch the supplier file and update stock levels according to your mappings. API connections support scheduled updates only, not real-time supplier updates. Real-time synchronization is available for Shopify-to-Shopify connections when enabled during feed setup.

Note: Trial plans run automated updates every 24 hours. Hourly or more frequent scheduling requires a paid plan. If your feed stops due to the “over 80% inventory set to zero” protection, you may disable the Quantity Zero Alert in the feed Profile when this behavior is expected.

If your supplier adds new products, use an Add feed (separate from the Update feed) to import those new SKUs while the Update feed continues updating existing ones.

Note: Automatic scheduled syncs require a plan that supports scheduling. If you are on the free plan, you may need to upgrade to enable daily or hourly automated updates.
