# How to merge new variants with existing products?

To merge variants into existing products, navigate to **Variant Group > Smart Settings > Merge variants**. You must also enable the **Merge** option in the **Product Identifier** field for the Add Feed. Note that **adding each new variant will use one credit**.

### Merge new variants into existing products

When the toggle is on, variants will be merged with existing products, and you must select the same group for the merging process.

**Important notes:**
* The *Variant Group* option is available **only in Add Feeds**. Update Feeds cannot add new variants — they can update quantity, price, etc., but they cannot create variants.
* To successfully merge new variants into an existing product, the feed must:
* Use an Add Feed
* Include a Product Identifier (such as SKU, handle, or barcode) that matches the existing product in the store
* Have a shared Variant Group value across all variants that belong to the same product
* If your variants share the same SKU or barcode for all rows, merging will fail unless another unique field (handle, parent ID, etc.) is provided to identify each variant.
* New variants added later must have a product identifier value that does not yet exist in Shopify. If the identifier is already present in the store, Stock Sync cannot create the variant and merging will fail.
* If all existing variants in Shopify share the same SKU (e.g., due to a previous misconfiguration), Merge Variants will show all incoming rows as already existing and merge count will remain at 0. Each variant must have a unique SKU or a unique field mapped as the Product Identifier for merging to work.

There are **few scenarios** demonstrating how this option works; please understand them well.

### Scenario 1

> If your feed file contains the same product titles as those in your store, you can use it to merge variants. Make sure each product has a unique SKU value as its identifier.

### Scenario 2

> If your feed file has the same barcode as the store, you can use it to merge variants. Make sure each product has a unique SKU value as its identifier.

### Scenario 3

> If your feed file has the same SKU as the store, it won’t be able to merge the variants.

### Scenario 4

> Make sure to select the correct option in the Variant Group (Smart Setting); otherwise, the variants won’t be merged.

### Merge variants will tagged with

When the new variants merge, you can add a tag to check which variants have merged.
