# Published Field

Manage product visibility across your sales channels by mapping the **Published** field in Stock Sync. This field allows you to dynamically control whether products are published or unpublished based on status indicators or stock availability in your feed file.

> ⚠️ **Shopify Plus & Permissions Requirement** > Publishing products automatically to specific sales channels requires the `write_publications` access scope. This scope is currently restricted to private apps installed on Shopify Plus stores. Contact Shopify Partner Support to enable this scope for your app.

## How to Set Up the Published Field

Go to **Stock Sync** → **Setup New Feed** / **Edit Feed** → **Step 2: Matching Column**

1. **Map Field**: Click **Add more field** and select **Published** from the target field dropdown.
2. **Select Column**: Choose the column or index from your feed file containing your publishing status indicators (e.g., `true`/`false`, `1`/`0`, `publish`/`unpublish`).
3. **Configure Field Settings**: Click the gear icon on the field mapping row to define your custom publish/unpublish indicators and sales channels.
4. **Save Changes**: Proceed to the next setup step and save your configuration.

| **Conflict Warning**: If you map the **Published** field in an Update Feed, do not select the advanced unpublish or archive settings in **Step 4 (Advanced Settings)** to prevent conflicting execution rules.

### 1. Publish Value Indicators
Defines the terms or values in your feed that instruct Stock Sync to publish a product.

- **Default Indicator**: `true`
- **Supported Values**: Terms such as `show`, `publish`, `back-in-stock`, `1`, or any custom indicator string present in your file.
- **Stock Rule**: Products must generally have an available quantity greater than 0 to publish successfully.

### 2. Unpublish Value Indicators
Defines the terms or values in your feed that instruct Stock Sync to unpublish a product.

- **Default Indicator**: `false`
- **Supported Values**: Terms such as `0`, `hide`, `unpublish`, `out-of-stock`, or any custom indicator string.
- **Stock Rule**: By default, products will not unpublish if stock remains available, unless **Force Unpublish** is enabled.

### 3. Force Unpublished When Quantity is Still Available
Overrides inventory checks to unpublish products regardless of their remaining stock level.

- Enable the toggle icon to unpublish items immediately upon reading the unpublish indicator, even if inventory is greater than 0.

### 4. Edit Sales Channels for Publishing
Select specific sales channels to target, preventing products from automatically publishing to every connected channel simultaneously.

- Choose your specific sales channels from the list to restrict where the product updates apply.

## Technical Use Cases & Examples

* **Handling Blank Cells**: Use the value indicator configuration to set a fallback value when a feed cell is completely empty.
* **Granular Visibility**: Automatically toggle publish states on a per-product level via inventory values rather than applying a global bulk setting across the entire feed.
* **Custom Feed Mappings**: Translate supplier-specific status indicators (e.g., `In Stock` / `Discontinued`) directly into Shopify's published state.

## Troubleshooting Steps

* **Issue**: Products are not unpublishing despite an unpublish indicator in the feed file.
**Solution**: Ensure product quantity is set to `0` or enable **Force unpublished when quantity is still available** in the field settings.

* **Issue**: Error regarding sales channel updates when running the feed.
**Solution**: Verify that your app installation has `write_publications` scope access (Shopify Plus stores only) or deselect restricted sales channels.

* **Issue**: Conflicting publish behavior during feed execution.
**Solution**: Open **Step 4 (Advanced Settings)** and disable any unpublish or archive automation rules that conflict with your field mapping.
