# Update existing products in store with update feed (detailed)

|| Before setting up an update feed, follow these steps to ensure a smooth product update process:

* Verify that your store contains the products you want to update, with correct identifiers such as SKUs or barcodes.
* Ensure that all necessary fields are mapped in the Matching Column (Step 2). You can remove any fields you do not wish to update. If you only want to update stock levels without affecting other product details (such as descriptions, tags, meta descriptions, images, or prices), unmap those fields so they will not be overwritten. You can fully control which fields are included in each update feed.

### Steps to Create an Update Feed:
1. Click on the Create new feed -> Update existing products in the store to create the feed.

If you previously used an Add New Products feed (for example, when importing products from a supplier using a public token), you must still create a separate Update Feed to sync inventory and prices. The Add Feed will not update stock levels for existing products.
* Alternatively, you can quickly create one by clicking the three dots on an existing Add Feed and selecting **Copy as Update Feed**, which will duplicate your settings and map only SKU and Quantity. If the copied feed needs to update prices too, map the **Price** field to the supplier's price column in Step 2. You can also change the XML URL in the existing Update feed to the full XML source used by the Add feed; this preserves the feed's filters and other settings.
* Note: An Add Feed will not update stock or price for existing products; you must use an Update Feed for inventory or price changes.

2. **Select/Search the Connection** that you want to use:

||| 💡 Tip: Stock Sync offers over 200 templates, even though only a few are displayed on the page. Use the search feature to find the right template for your needs.

3. **Map the fields in Step 2: Matching column**
If you're using a **Google Sheets** connection, map the column headers or column index to their respective fields. Example below shows:
* SKU field is set as the Product Identifier then it is mapped with the Product ID Column from the feed file.
* Quantity field is mapped with Stock column.
* Price field is mapped to RRP column.
* Description field is mapped to Description\_dec\_1 column.
