Harmonized System Code Field

The Harmonized System (HS) Code is a standardized 6-digit commodity classification system developed by the World Customs Organization (WCO). Adding HS codes to your products ensures accurate international customs tariff calculation, compliant cross-border documentation, and smooth shipping clearance.

How to Set Up Harmonized System (HS) Code

Go to App → Feed Settings → Step 2: Matching Column

Add HS Code Field: In Step 2, locate or add the Harmonized System Code field mapping.
Map Feed Column: Select the column from your feed file that contains your HS Code values.
Configure Smart Settings: If your supplier codes include extra characters or non-standard lengths, click the gear icon to configure prefix or postfix removal rules.
Save Mapping: Click Update or save your feed settings to apply the configuration.

If your feed file does not contain an HS Code column, you can apply a static code (e.g., 603210) across all products using the Fixed Value feature.

1. HS Code Prefix/Postfix

Platforms such as Shopify strictly require 6-digit Harmonized System Codes. If your feed values include extra prefix numbers, supplier letters, or extended regional tariff digits (postfix), use this setting to trim them automatically.

Prefix: Enter the characters at the beginning of the code that should be stripped (e.g., 000 or A).
Postfix: Enter the characters at the end of the code followed by a dollar sign $ to denote the end of the string (e.g., 0100$ or A$).

Prefix example: If your feed code is A123768, enter A to strip the prefix and update the store with 123768.

Postfix example: If your feed code is 123768A, enter A$ to strip the postfix and update the store with 123768.

Key Rules & Technical Details

6-Digit Requirement: Shopify and international trade bodies require HS codes to be formatted as exactly 6 numeric digits.
Postfix Anchor Symbol ($ ): You must always include the $ symbol at the end of a postfix definition (e.g., 0100$) so the system anchors the match to the end of the code.
Fixed Value Fallback: If you sell a single category of goods and your supplier feed lacks tariff data, use Fixed Value rather than creating custom feed columns.

Troubleshooting Steps

Issue: Shopify rejects the HS Code during sync → Solution: Verify that the final processed code is exactly 6 numerical digits with all letters, spaces, and extra regional digits stripped.
Issue: Postfix characters are not being removed → Solution: Ensure you have appended a $ to the end of the postfix rule (e.g., enter A$ instead of A).
Issue: Feed does not have an HS Code column → Solution: Set the field mapping mode to Fixed Value and input your 6-digit classification code manually.
