How to Map Charge Tax Field

Control whether sales tax is charged on product variants on your Shopify store using feed column values or a uniform fixed setting. This ensures accurate tax calculation at checkout for your inventory during additions, updates, and exports.

How to Set Up Charge Tax Field

Go to App → Feed Settings → Step 2: Field Mapping

Map Field: Select the Charge Tax field in Stock Sync.
Select Source: Choose your feed file's tax column header name, index, or select Fixed Value.
Configure Indicators: Define the text or numeric indicators in your feed that represent taxable and non-taxable statuses.

Using a fixed value is ideal if your feed file lacks a dedicated tax column but all products share the same taxability rule.

Charge Tax Field Smart Settings / Detailed Breakdown

1. Charge Tax Indicator

Specifies the indicator value in your feed file that sets product variants as taxable on Shopify.

By default, the charge tax indicator is set to yes.

Example Indicator Mapping:

Indicator Value	Action	Description
`true` / `TRUE`	Charge Tax	Sets product variant as taxable on Shopify.
`1`	Charge Tax	Numeric indicator to enable tax collection.
`taxable`	Charge Tax	Text status indicator from feed file.
`show`	Charge Tax	Text value indicating active tax status.
Custom string	Charge Tax	Any custom text indicator configured in your feed settings.

2. Not Charge Tax Indicator

Specifies the indicator value in your feed file that sets product variants as non-taxable on Shopify.

By default, the not charge tax indicator is set to no.

Example Indicator Mapping:

Indicator Value	Action	Description
`false` / `FALSE`	Do Not Charge Tax	Disables tax collection for the product variant.
`0`	Do Not Charge Tax	Numeric indicator to disable tax collection.
`no`	Do Not Charge Tax	Default text indicator for non-taxable items.
Custom string	Do Not Charge Tax	Any custom string used in your feed file to denote non-taxable items.

3. Fixed Value Option

If your feed file does not contain a tax column, select Fixed Value to apply a single tax rule across all products in the feed.

Select True to enable taxable status or False to disable taxable status for all imported variants.

Key Rules & Technical Details

Supported Indicators: Accepts common boolean values (true/false), numeric flags (1/0), and standard status words (yes/no, taxable).
Fixed Value Override: Selecting Fixed Value bypasses column mapping and applies your chosen setting (True or False) to every item in the feed.
Store-Level Tax Settings: Stock Sync toggles the Shopify variant property charge_tax (Taxable flag). Tax rates are governed by your Shopify store tax settings.

Troubleshooting Steps

Issue: Products remain non-taxable after syncing → Solution: Check whether your feed value matches the exact string configured in the Charge Tax Indicator setting, or verify that your Fixed Value is set to True.
Issue: Feed file has no tax column → Solution: Switch the mapping source to Fixed Value and set it to True (taxable) or False (non-taxable).
