If there are duplicate images, will they be updated?

Stock Sync prevents duplicate image upload by ensuring to NOT upload the same image FILENAME.

For eg. Filename: Image123.jpg --> Stock Sync will NOT upload the same filename from the feed file to the store if the store has this image FILENAME.

Issue:

Picsmize—Image Optimizer Application. This application allows you to change the product image names as needed. The name of the images will be updated, and Stock Sync will add the duplicates of the images.

Solution:

Picsmize—Image Optimizer Application. Disable the image name modification option on this app.

Additional Notes:

To prevent duplicate images when both Add/Import and Update feeds run, ensure the following settings are enabled:

  • Use ALT to match images
  • Use URL as ALT

These settings allow Stock Sync to correctly match existing images, preventing re‑adding the same URLs.

Further Scenarios:

  • If the supplier feed contains two different sets of image URLs for the same product (for example, different filename structures or sizes), Stock Sync will treat them as separate images. Shopify may then add random number extensions to avoid filename conflicts.
  • If a product no longer exists in the supplier feed, Stock Sync cannot remove or overwrite its images in the store. These products must be cleaned up manually in Shopify if needed.
