How can I troubleshoot stock update issues in Shopify?

If stock updates fail or quantities in Shopify don’t change as expected, check these common causes:

• Verify that the correct inventory location is selected and mapped in your feed. If the required location is not enabled for the product or variant in Shopify, enable it in Shopify Admin before syncing. A location may need to receive a positive quantity once before it can subsequently be updated to 0.

• Ensure no unnecessary filters (such as vendor filters) are applied in the feed. Misconfigured filters can cause "no match found" or prevent updates.

• Confirm the Product Identifier matches the Shopify product or variant. If the SKU is built from multiple source columns, map all required identifier components, such as ItemNumber, Color, and Size. Test the sync with one sample SKU and review the change log.

• If the preview shows the entire first row instead of SKU or quantity, review the feed format and delimiter. Some supplier feeds cannot be modified, so try switching delimiter types or confirming the structure.

• If Shopify shows a fixed quantity (such as 20) even when the feed contains higher stock, check the supplier file—sometimes the file itself limits stock values.

• When a product should be updated but isn’t found in the feed, enable options like Set out of stock to zero so unmatched items get correctly reset.

• For stock-status values such as “In Stock” and “Out of Stock,” map the source quantity/status field to Quantity and configure Smart Settings—for example, set “In Stock” to 10 and “Out of Stock” to 0.

• For advanced Shopify inventory fields such as reserved or on_hand, map the field "Unavailable quantity" and use Smart Settings to reset or adjust this value if needed.

• If a tag appears in the API but not in Shopify Admin, refresh the page or filter products by the exact tag. Shopify Admin may display cached or delayed data.

These steps cover the most common reasons for stock not updating or showing incorrect values across feeds and Shopify.
