How to Add Products with Variants to Your Store

When adding products that contain multiple variants (such as size, color, length, or width), ensure that both your product structure and feed settings are aligned. Below are the key requirements and steps to successfully add products with variants using Stock Sync.

1. Ensure Variants Belong to the Same Product

Stock Sync groups variants based on the merge rule you select. To make sure variants are correctly added under one product:

• Use one shared product title for all variants, or

• Use a shared identifier such as group_id, SKU, barcode, or Variant Group depending on your feed structure.

Variant titles must match the merge rule exactly. For example, if you merge by product title, all variants must have the same title. Additional details (size, length, color) should be placed in Variant Option fields, not in the main product title.

2. Use Variant Group and Variant Option Fields

To add variant sets correctly:

• Populate the Variant Group field in your feed, which can be found under the Variant Group setting.

• Map variant attributes such as Color, Size, Width, or Length to the corresponding Variant Option fields.

3. Adding Variants to Existing Products

If a parent product already exists in your store, Stock Sync will skip duplicates unless the merge rule matches. To add missing variants to existing products:

• Ensure the variant identifiers exactly match the fields used in your merge setup.

• Confirm the variant titles or group identifiers are consistent with the existing product.

4. Preview Before Adding

Always use Preview Sync before importing. The preview will show:

• Number of products to be added

• Whether variants are grouped correctly

• Any skipped or mismatched items

If everything looks correct, proceed with the real sync.

5. Variant Limits May Affect Adding Products

Your store’s variant limit may prevent adding new products or variants. If you reach the limit:

• Reduce existing variants or products, or

• Upgrade your Shopify plan if applicable.

6. If Variants Display Incorrectly

If variant titles, colors, or sizes become mixed up:

• Recheck your mapping for Variant Option fields

• Ensure each Option has the correct name and source column

• Undo or reverse the feed if needed before re‑syncing

Summary

To successfully add products with variants:

• Use consistent identifiers for grouping

• Map Variant Group and Variant Option fields correctly

• Ensure titles match if using title-based merge

• Preview before adding

• Check your store’s variant limit

Following these steps ensures your products and variants are added cleanly and grouped correctly in your store.
