What are the options for managing data in Stock Sync when using FTP?

When using an FTP connection in Stock Sync, data handling depends on the feed type you configure. Stock Sync does not automatically perform an upsert unless you set it up explicitly. You must choose the intended behavior through one of the following options:

  1. Update existing products only: Stock Sync updates products already in your store based on a unique identifier such as SKU. Items that exist in the FTP file but not in your store are ignored.
  2. Add new products only: Stock Sync imports new products found in the FTP file but skips any products already present in your store.
  3. Upsert (Add + Update): This requires creating two separate feeds using the same FTP source—one feed configured to update existing products and another feed dedicated to adding new products. This combination allows Stock Sync to update current listings and insert new ones when necessary.

You may also use the same FTP/SFTP connection details (host, username, password, directory) across multiple feeds. Stock Sync treats each feed separately based on its configured type, even when they share the same FTP source.

Configure an FTP feed

  1. In the Stock Sync dashboard, click Create New Feed and choose Add New Products or Update Existing Products.
  2. In Feed Manager (Step 1), select FTP - Download.
  3. Enter the FTP username, password, host, and the directory/filename containing the feed file. If the add and update feeds use different files, specify the appropriate path or filename for each feed.
  4. Select the file format, or leave it as Auto for automatic detection. Supported formats include CSV, XLS/XLSX, XML, JSON, TXT, EDI, TSV, and HTML Table.
  5. Map the feed columns to the relevant store fields, including a unique identifier such as SKU, then test or preview the feed before activating it.
  6. If the FTP server is secured, whitelist Stock Sync’s IP address (52.20.189.51) and confirm the protocol, port, directory, and filename are correct. Paths may be case-sensitive.

Adding new products and updating existing products cannot be performed by one feed; create separate feeds when both actions are required.

FTP setup information

To configure an FTP feed, provide the FTP host, username, password, port, and the directory/filename where the feed file is located. The standard FTP port is 21 unless the vendor specifies another port. Also provide the feed file so its columns can be mapped to the relevant store fields.

Scheduling FTP updates

FTP feeds can be scheduled to run at a selected interval. Stock Sync supports hourly or daily schedules, and a 15-minute interval can be configured from the backend when available for the selected plan.
