Why are my product variants not being added or merged in Shopify via Stock Sync?

Variants may fail to add or merge when the product identifier or variant group does not match what exists in Shopify. Common causes include:

• The SKU of the new variant does not exist in the feed or does not match the store’s existing data.
• The variant group column (such as title, handle, barcode, or combined fields) does not match exactly, even if differences are small (such as special characters like ® or �).
• The original product in Shopify was imported without variant options, which prevents new variants from being merged.
• Special characters in titles may cause grouping mismatches. Adding them to the Ignore Words list can help.

To resolve:
• Ensure all variant data (SKU, title, price, quantity, etc.) is present in the feed.
• Verify the Variant Group mapping matches the existing product exactly.
• Enable “Merge variants into existing products” when adding new variants. This must be turned on for additional variants added at a later time to merge into an existing product.
• New variants must share the same Variant Group value as the product already in Shopify (such as handle, title, or barcode), otherwise they will import as separate products.
• If the product identifier (e.g., SKU or barcode) already exists in the store and the feed attempts to reuse it incorrectly, the variant may fail to merge.
• If the product was created without options, you must remove and re-import it with proper variant options.

These steps help ensure new variants are added under the correct product instead of creating new products or appearing as unmatched variants.

Additional notes:
• Even if variants are successfully added in Shopify, they may not appear on the storefront if the product is still in draft or the theme’s product template does not support multiple variant options. Always verify the product is published and the theme displays variant selectors correctly.
